Community News 1993


1993 saw somewhat more rainfall than in recent years. It was an excellent year for berries. The whole month of December was exceptionally mild. Murphy Oil drilled a new well and plans to reopen some old wells. This fall saw 13 children from the Flats enrolled in the Elk Point & District Ukrainian Dance Club.

Alana Ockerman, daughter of Orin & Donna Ockerman, born on Jun 26th
(April and Alanna are grandchildren to John & Judy Ockerman)
Linden Nelson, son of Richard & Sheila Nelson born on Feb 12th grandson of Neil & Mary Nelson
Kelly Thomson, born to Lily Thomson and grandchild of Charlie & Connie Thomson of Primrose
Bill & Edna Zapesocki had a grandson born to Kevin & Tammy Smith
Gwen Nelson had two great children: Brandon Nadeau born Jul 28th and Christian Gottenbos Jul 10th. 
Both are grandsons of Charles & Sharon Nelson
Ed and Ella Hillebrand also had two grandchildren Son to Wendy Gerkul (daughter of Elsie Gerkul)
 
ARRIVALS:
 
Ed and Ella Hillebrand moved back to the district as did Ed and Elaine Babenek. Sue Bartholomew and her son Addison Vandermeys also moved into the district.
 
GRADUATES:
 
Bev Hillebrand, Jennifer Hillebrand, Kim Seward, and Doug Irvine all graduated from grade twelve. Jesse Hillebrand from NAIT
 
MARRIAGES:
 
Donna Ockerman married Trent Winchester on Jul 2nd. Brenda Nelson married Dale Evjen on April 3rd. Angie Nelson married James Pinder on Jun 17th.Jackie Nelson married Gary Belter on Nov 12th (which would have been the 50th wedding anniversary of her grandparents Gwen and Edward Nelson)
 
Fred Martin, Idelore Nelson, Flora Fryingpan, Arlie Victor Bartholomew 
Rosie Martin celebrated her 80th birthday
 
Ellen Seward won the Whist tournament. Mary Nelson won the cribbage tournament.
